All HEP Staff and Faculty members are welcome to use shared resources on the server. There are certain requirements that the computer you are connecting with must meet. PC's must be running Windows 9x or NT and have a working network connection. You also need to be part of the PHYSICS-HEP Domain. To see what Domain you currently belong to, or to change domains use the Network utility in your control panel. Computers running DOS (anybody really doing this?) or Windows 3.x can also connect, but additional software may have to be added to the system. Mac's must be running system 7.1 or higher.
Mac usage is limited to file sharing at this time, however, I hope to include other resources soon. For more infomation on Mac's follow these links: Connecting a Mac or Mac Usage
When you double click on the HEPSERVER icon in Network Neighborhood here is what you will see:

The ftproot folder is a directory were users can put files that would like to share via anonymous FTP. More info here: FTP Server
The Mac Users folder is a public (can be used by all HEP server users) area that is used to store Mac documents. More info here: Mac Usage
The Microsoft UAM Volume folder stores files used by Macs to make the connection to the server. More info here: Mac Connections
The NETLOGON folder is used by the server operating system. No user files are stored in this area.
The Profiles folder is an area used to store user information such as desktop and startmenu settings.
The Public Documents folders is a public area where users can store files that they wish to share with other users. More info here: Data Sharing
The Software folder contains commonly used software and installation files. More info here: Software
The Users folder contains all private user subdirectories where users can store data files. More info here: Data Storage
The wwwroot directory is where all Web Server doucuments are stored. For more information on the Web Server follow this link Web Server
