Maritime Telecommunications Network and BT Link Cruise Ships To Cell Phone Network - Cruise-ship Passengers and Staff will be able to use Their Cell phones While at Sea Anywhere in the World for the First Time

Miramar, March 15, 2000 Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN), a subsidiary of American Tower’s ATC Teleports Inc., of Fairfax, VA (NYSE:AMT), announced today it will provide the satellite communications network for a new service developed and patented by BT A&M, BT’s satellite communications division.  This new service, known as ‘Cruise Connect’, will enable passengers and staff on cruise ships to make and receive calls from their cell phones while at sea.

Using the new service, has solved the problem of passenger vessels cruising beyond the reach of cellular signals.  Passengers and staff can make and receive calls on their cell phones in exactly the same way as they would on land.  Discrete “mini” cellular stations are installed on the vessels themselves.  These stations are linked, via the MTN satellite communications network, to a mobile switching center within the land based cellular network.

In addition to providing global cell phone coverage while aboard the ship by using MTN’s ShipNet technology, an IP broadcast network with a continuous full-time data link, ‘Cruise Connect’ gives passengers and staff the added benefit of being directly contacted on their normal cellular number with the flexibility of the call charges appearing on their regular cellular bill.

Stephen Brunskill, BT’s product manager for ‘Cruise Connect’ said:  “The successful integration of satellite and cellular communications has enabled us to extend the cellular network.  Cruise passengers can now benefit from the growing convenience offered by mobile communications while at sea.  If they wish, passengers can make and receive calls at any time during their holiday and will have the cost charged to their normal bill.  This
development allows cruise passengers to relax in the knowledge that they can contact their families and friends at any time or place during their holidays, without moving from their deckchairs or having to pay separately for the calls.”

The service will be compatible with future mainstream cellular developments such as GPRS and UMTS, which will provide even more flexibility by allowing mobile Internet access.

Bradford Briggs, MTN’s Senior Vice President & General Manger states:  “MTN is excited to bring the extended convenience of connecting cellular networks with vessels served by MTN’s global C-band network.  We look forward to delivering BT’s ‘Cruise Connect’ and other exciting emerging technologies to our customers.”

MTN and BT are working together jointly to implement ‘Cruise Connect’ for MTN customers.

ICG Satellite Services Business Growth Led By International Voice and Data Division

MIAMINovember 06, 1998 – ICG Satellite Services, Inc. (ICGSS), a wholly owned subsidiary of ICG Communications Inc, today announced that its newest division, International Voice and Data (IVD), has successfully driven growth in international voice, data and video – a hot, new market for satellite facilities.

The IVD division provides telephony, Internet, video and other data services for the international carrier and foreign Internet service providers (ISPs), via satellite. During the past 18 months, the IVD division expanded its customer base through support of international services and has steadily grown from 15 percent to more than 40 percent of ICGSS’ revenue.

"The growth in international services is increasingly generated by non-tier-1 carriers and ISPs who want a competitive alternative, but have difficulty finding an able partner," said Dave Kagan, president of ICGSS. "Because of the expanded services the IVD division offers, the company can fulfill the needs of these carrier and ISPs and help them successfully compete with larger tier-1 carriers."

A market leader in satellite communications applications for the past 14 years, ICGSS’ core business focuses on the cruise and naval maritime industries, as well as the domestic market for Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) satellite transmissions and video services.

"The success of the Satellite Services division reflects several factors," said Brent Perrott, Director of the IVD division. "Satellite Services has made more efficient use of its assets, which has enabled the company to serve as a key Internet exchange point for large foreign telephone companies and ISPs. Our success in this area compliments our core business and the ICG Netcom family at-large."

ICGSS’ growth as an Internet exchange point is witnessed by recent international transmission deals with companies, including Comsat General, Telintar Sur (international carrier of Argentina), and UUNet Technologies.

"As nations around the world deregulate their telecommunications industries, the IVD division assist them in providing alternative facilities to the traditional and emerging U.S. carriers," said Perrott. "Satellite Services’ excellent facilities offers superior connections to the Internet backbone and to the primary international telephony transfer points in New York, Los Angeles and Miami. In addition, using a variety of satellite antennas, Satellite Services is providing access globally."

Currently, the IVD division is providing end-to-end services for customers, including international satellite connectivity, hardware requirements, collocation and engineering support. Additionally, IVD provides value-added services, including ATM, frame relay, switching and high-speed Internet backbone access. The company continues to expand this business through the investment of additional satellite and fiber facilities.

The Grand Princess will be the largest Cruise Ship in the world and will require the innovative C-Band communications equipment that MTN can provide.

The Grand Princess will have a circuit that is twice the size of most ships today and will double her communications capacity. Passenger telephone availability will double along with ship data and administration capacity. "We are pleased to provide the Grand Princess and the Princess fleet with our newest communications technology," said Douglas Falk, President of MTN.

The Grand Princess will also have the added benefit of live video broadcast capability. Princess Cruises has used this service many times in the past 4 years to broadcast news media events featuring past stars of "The Love Boat" television show. MTN, a subsidiary of ICG Satellite Services (ICGSS), is the only communications provider to currently supply the maritime industry with compressed digital video and audio telecommunications capabilities.

"We chose to expand our relationship with MTN because our newest ship, the Grand Princess, requires advanced communications technology. The MTN system meets both our technology requirements today as well as our anticipated requirements as we grow and demand more voice, data and video broadcast capabilities," said Rick James, Senior Vice President of Sales and Corporate Relations of Princess Cruises.

A leader in worldwide communications, MTN is the major provider of C-Band voice, fax and data communications to the cruise industry, the U.S. Navy, and to offshore oil and gas platforms around the world. ICG Satellite Services, Inc. is a division of ICG Communications, Inc., headquartered in Englewood, CO (NASDAQ - "ICGX").

CARNIVAL CRUISE SHIP TO HOST FIRST-EVER LIVE DIGITAL RADIO BROADCAST VIA MTN/C-BAND TECHNOLOGY

January 5, 1998, Miami, FL —- In early January 1998, Carnival Cruise Lines' Inspiration will host Capital Radio UK for a one-week cruise. While cruising, radio station personalities will be broadcasting live for 4 hours per day. The broadcast is made possible because Carnival ships employ the advanced digital telecommunications capabilities of Maritime Telecommunications Network's (MTN) C-Band satellite systems. MTN is the only maritime telecommunications company to provide this type of service via C-Band.

Radio Personalities can broadcast live while the ship is at sea or in port, allowing the show to be aired during its regularly scheduled time slot. Capital Radio listeners in Europe will also be able to "call in" to the announcers during the broadcast for complete interaction. "It will be no different than if the show was broadcast from the UK studio, " said Richard Hadsall, Vice President Operations of MTN

MTN provides both live video and radio broadcast capability from its cruise line customers’ vessels. "Before MTN installed its telecommunications services on Carnival's ships, broadcasts were taped on the ship then played later when the ship reached port or sent via telephone line which has low voice quality. Now radio and television stations can share the cruise experience, live, real time, with their audience, meaning no more delayed broadcasts," said Doug Falk, President of MTN.

Maritime Telecommunications Network, Inc. is the major provider of C-Band voice, fax and data communications to the cruise industry, the U.S. Navy, and to offshore oil and gas platforms around the world. MARITIME TELECOMMUNICATIONS NETWORK AND CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES SIGN A $40 MILLION, 5 YEAR C-BAND COMMUNICATIONS AGREEMENT

September 19, 1997, Miami, FL – Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN), a subsidiary of ICG Satellite Services, Inc., announced today that it has signed a 5 year agreement, renewing its position as the principal provider of telecommunications for the Carnival Cruise Lines fleet. This new contract provides for an upgrade of Carnival’s current C-Band shipboard service from 64 KBS to128 KBS per vessel, with "Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation." This larger, more flexible circuit will give Carnival vessels greater voice and data capability and permit MTN to introduce new enhanced telecommunication services for added passenger convenience.

"MTN is pleased to continue the expansion of its service to Carnival, a major cruise line, that understands the need for state of the art communications," said Doug Falk, President of MTN.

This month, MTN is initiating a Crew Debit Card Service, which allows crew members to stay in touch with family and friends while working onboard any Carnival Ship. Future services planned include a "Shore-to-Ship" telephone service that will allow passengers to be contacted on any Carnival ship while they are cruising. The larger circuit and enhanced services, combined with passenger in-cabin phone service is expected to produce more than $40 million in gross revenue from telecom services for Carnival Cruise Lines over the next 5 years.

"We are very pleased with the reliable and state of the art telecommunications service MTN has provided," said Brendan Corrigan, VP of Operations, for Carnival. "The new services will provide our passengers and crew with even greater flexibility in shipboard telecommunications."

By the end of the year, MTN plans to provide all ships currently under contract with crew debit cards, and shore-to-ship calling.
