Maritime
Telecommunications Network (MTN) has secured a growing niche
for providing end to end long distance telephone service for
crewmembers and ship to shore communications for the U.S. Navy. MTN
continues to strengthen our commitment to the U.S. Navy by
providing cost sensitive and timely implementation of technology
in order to meet their requirements in both command and morale
needs. Crewmembers can make long distance calls to the US on
SAILORPHONE (sm) from anywhere in the world while the ship is at
sea.
MTN
has been awarded the contract to supply Television Direct to
Sailors (TV-DTS) terminals for installation on US Navy vessels
by the Space & Naval Warfare Systems Center (SPAWAR) in San
Diego, CA. The Armed Forces Radio and Television Services (AFRTS)
broadcast operations initially began in late 1997. The AFRTS
TV-DTS initiative takes advantage of global, high power
satellite transponders and small satellite terminal technologies
to provide high quality television broadcasts to Sailors and
Marines at sea, 24 hours a day, even on the smallest Navy
surface vessels.
This
concept presents a revolutionary ability to link all Navy
personnel afloat to the news and informational events affecting
their immediate deployed operational situations while providing
them with a familiar and high quality touch of home
entertainment service.
