Questions about High Level Alarms

Q. How long have you been in business?

A. We've been selling and installing alarms since 1983.

Q. Why do you call yourself, 'High Level Alarms?'
A. There are many reasons for this:
Our goal is to provide a high standard for our customers.  In effect, when we shop for equipment, we're actually shopping for you, our customer. There are times when we could cut corners to save a few bucks and when we could opt to buy certain parts for less, but if it's not top quality, we just won't buy it and we won't sell it.  After all, our customers come to us, because second best isn't good enough.  Sometimes it does cost a little more and we risk losing a sale here and there but we don't sell low level alarm equipment and that's not going to change.  If it's High Level you want, then it's High Level you'll get.

Q. Are you a large company and will I get the service I need, regardless of where I live?
A. We're large enough to sell comfortably within the U.S and Canada and currently working on expanding but never so large that we won't know you personally.  Our Central Station is large enough to provide service to these two countries around the clock, every minute of the year with all sorts of redundant back up equipment to cover any imagined kind of emergency.  We're extremely committed to our customers and we will be available to assist you, whenever you need us.  We pride ourselves on service and customer satisfaction.  No matter where you live, you'll get care and service equal to living next door.  Likewise, at home or on the road, you can reach us by just picking up a phone and calling toll free.

Q. How can you fix something for me, if we're miles apart?
A. The first thing we do if you report any sort of problem is to check your alarm system via our computer system. Most things can be changed or altered this way and often, problems are resolved via computer, over a phone line and modem.  If for some reason, we can't solve your problem over the phone, then there is the minor inconvenience of you having to ship the product back to us, whereby we'll promptly return a replacement. This may seem a long process but in most cases, it's nearly as fast as in home service calls, while being far cheaper for you.

Q. How do you know what I need for an alarm system?
A. In a word, 'experience.' After you've installed the 'starter package' if you feel that you need more coverage, call us, answer a few questions about your home, and we can quickly determine what else you might need.

Q. When you send me the customer price list, how do I know that I'm truly getting a discount?
A. Simple. Shop around. You'll have model numbers and you'll be able to compare the product, item for item.  We don't like losing a sale, so we're very competitive.

Q. What is a monitored alarm system?
A. In reality, it's merely your link to a designated third party, (the central station) who then follows directions from a list provided by us, after getting directions from you.

Q. Do I really need monitoring?
A. When your alarm activates without monitoring, you will still get a local siren.  Some burglars activate alarms and then wait nearby to see if the police show up or not. If the police don't show, then they know that this is not truly, a real alarm system. At this point, they merely have to silence the noise and they're in.  Worse yet, when you get home, they could still be there and the police will not be coming.  A system without monitoring is like a fridge without freon....but you decide.

Q. How does the Central Station know who to call?
A. When something occurs, such as a low battery signal, or a burglar alarm, the Central Station receives a signal from your system.   At that point, your instructions pop up on screen and the Central Station phones anyone that you've pre-designated in your call list.

Q. How can the Central Station serve me well, when it might be located in another State, or sometimes clear across country?
A. These days, whenever you're making a long distance call, your call generally travels from the ground to a satellite and back to the ground again, all at the speed of light. Since distance becomes as instantaneous as someone living across the street, the only truly important criteria is that your Central Station be friendly, courteous and on the ball, which we assure you, they are.

Q. Is the Central Station UL approved and Y2K compatible and what does this listing mean to me?
A. Mainly, that the Central Station has met certain requirements that will protect it from various hazards, ranging from intrusion, to computer redundancy.  Our Station does meet all these requirements and it has updated all of it's computer equipment in order to qualify for Y2K compatibility.

Q. What's the process for getting set up with Central?
A. We do most of the work.  We'll call and ask you specific information, you answer, we type it up, send it to you via e-mail, fax, or snail mail, for authorization.  Then we send it over to Central and your information is logged.

Q. Can I call the Central Station if I'm away on vacation or something and I just want to know if my house is still ok?
A. Yes, 24 hours a day from anywhere in North America, toll free.

Q. This appears to be a small system but is it adaptable for a large location?
A. In a word, YES. It can handle up to 24 wireless points that can be put in immediately or very easily at any time. There are very few locations where size of the structure would be too big. Likewise, the units are capable of transmitting a mile in perfect conditions, which correspondingly would allow for good transmission in most buildings, even fairly large ones.  Tell us what you've got and chances are we'll be able to advise you to go ahead.   If you have any range transmission difficulty, we wouldn't hesitate to tell you to send it back to us for a full refund.

Q. How do I size up my home and my needs?
A. Well, the best way is to call us and we'll help you. Alternately, a rough way to do it is to assure that at the least, the main entry doors should be covered and then no less than one motion detector per landing. This is only a basic suggestion and remember that every application has different variables that will affect the final outcome. Better to over protect, than under.

Q. How good is your equipment, really?
A. We survey everything being sold in the USA and we feel it's the best.  If there were something better out there, we'd be selling that instead.

Q. What if I need more equipment right now, than is offered in your package?

A. No Problem. We can put together any parts that you desire and assimilate a total package price based on your exact needs.

Q. How often does this kind of equipment break down?
A. Almost never. There are few problems and if there are any, we fix them fast by sending you replacement equipment. During the first year, this is free and cost you nothing, whatsoever.

Q. Since this is wireless equipment, how long is the battery life and how will I know when to replace them?
A. The shortest life expectancy of most units is three years, and some last as long as nine years.  About a month before battery death, a true low battery signal is sent to the Central Station. They will tell you when it's time to change a specific battery.  All batteries are available at local stores.

Q. Isn't there some adjusting involved that I may not know how to do to the units, such as on the doors and the motion detectors?
A. Not really. We'll send along specifications for spacing units on the doors or windows and we'll give you simple directions for calibrating the motion detector.  In most instances, the board on the interior of the motion will be set to the zero position. Since we pre-program everything, your input is basically, plug, peel and paste.

Q. If I see other systems advertised for less, wouldn't they be as good?
A. Remember the adage, "you get what you pay for."  There are many look alike's but High Level is our system. If you want low level, then you may find lower prices out there but since our prices are very low already, there is no doubt that you are going to give up something to get the lower price. Alarm systems that are low level just aren't worth the few bucks that you might save elsewhere. All wireless is not created equal.  You don't want false alarms and nor do we, so quality and the service that goes with it, do make a difference.

Q. So what's the difference between High Level and low level?
A. Quality and our commitment to you.  No middle of the night false alarms.  Response when there should be response.  Long equipment life and long battery life.  Ease of operation.  This is your chance to buy the best equipment, at the best price, no games, no gimmicks, just High Level.

Q. I am a student looking for information about alarms. I  need to know where burglars usually break in and what burglar alarms are now available.

A. Believe it or not, burglars like using doors as their primary entry point. In one case we heard about, the burglar came in the front door, using a large pry bar that took both the door and the frame right to the floor. A neighbor watched the incident unfold from 75 feet away across the street while sitting at his window. The neighbor did not call the police and assumed someone was doing construction. When the police investigated hours later, he couldn't even provide a description, except that it was a white male between 20 and 40 years old. The burglar was never apprehended for this crime.

The back door is the second most common entry point, followed by all other available doors, then windows, first floor, then basement.

There are two basic kinds of alarms systems available to today's consumer. In brief, wired or wireless, and in some cases you can combine both. The trend is now moving to wireless but since not all wireless is created equal, the buyer needs to be cautious about this purchase, which come to think of it, may also be just as true when buying wired equipment.  For something this important, only the best is good enough.   After all, why install an alarm system that will false alarm, or not work when it needs to?

Although we have access to and can sell any alarm system on the market, we feel that our wireless is high level in every respect.
