
The Environment Unit is part of the Ministry of
Environment, Energy and Natural Resources. It is the main policy co-ordinating arm of the
government regarding environmental policy at the national, regional and international
level.
"promote and facilitate the sustainable use of our resources encouraging
the involvement of all citizens and the integration of environmental considerations into
all aspects of national development planning."

* advise government on environmental policy;
* develop programmes to implement policy;
* develop and execute environmental education and public awareness programmes;
* act as technical focal point for regional and international policy;
* conserve and manage coastal and marine areas.

In the near future the Unit will also bear responsibility for the Greening of
Barbados Highways also known as Beautify Barbados 2000.
As with the other arms of the
Division, the Unit is heavily committed to sustainable development and practices.
