  • FAQ
  • Commonly asked questions
  • These are some questions and answers to common hosting concerns.
  • How do I transfer files to my website?
  • Files must be transferred to the web server via File Transport Protocol (FTP). If you need FTP, telnet, mail, or other Internet software, visit Shareware.com. Shareware.com is a source for the latest Internet applications with ratings and reviews to help you decide which application is best suited for your needs. An FTP tutorial is also available for beginner users who may not be familiar with FTP.
  • What is a virtual domain?
  • A Virtual Domain means having your own domain name (http://www.your-name.com) without having to install expensive server hardware and software. With a Virtual Domain, you utilize our server's storage space, however, you are still professionally represented via your own personal Internet web address domain name (www.your-name.com) and by your own personal e-mail address domain name (you@your-name.com).
  • Will I be able to access my site for updates 24 hours per day?
  • You have unlimited access via FTP 24-hours a day. As such, you can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your web site at your leisure.
  • Can I use my account for commercial purposes?
  • Yes, you can use your account for commercial purposes. The World Wide Web has become the most efficient and cost-effective means of making information available to the users of the Internet community and we encourage our customers to utilize such an enormous medium.
  • How long does it take to setup a new account?
  • New accounts are set up in less than 24 hours from the time we receive your order. Once an account is set up an activation notice will be sent to you via email including your user-ID, password, and FTP hostname. You can begin uploading files to your new web site immediately. Domain account users will be given a temporary URL to access their site via the web prior to the completion of either domain registration or domain modification.
  • Do you provide tech support?
  • Yes. We encourage our customers in need of assistance to send e-mail to Support@intense-city.net with questions or concerns about their web site. However, we provide technical support only, we cannot provide help with HTML syntax or CGI programming problems.
  • Can I subdivide my space and resell it?
  • Yes, we do allow you to create subdirectories which you can use to offer friends or clients space as long as its within our policy guidlines. You can also request additional FTP accounts with limited access to a specific directory for a small additional setup charge. We do not point domains to subdirectories of a main domain.
  • Can I register additional domains to point to a subdirectory of my  main domain?
  • No, this is something we do not presently offer but may be offering special accounts for this in the future.
  • Can I have additional domains pointing to the same main page as my current domain?
  • Yes, for a one time 30.00 setup fee for each additional domain we can mirror your main web pages and mail system. This is a great way to expand the marketing of your present business.
  • Are third level domains available? (myname.domain.com)
  • Yes, We can give you a third level domain name such as yourname.intense-city.com or if you have a existing domain with us anyname.yourdomain.com. The packages are the same as the one posted for normal domains, the advantage to these is internic registration is not needed. This means no internic registration fees.
  • Are extra ftp, telnet and pop accounts available?
  • Yes. for a additonal one time setup fee you can add

additonal login accounts. See price schedule listed.

Pop only one time 10.00 setup
    Pop/FTP one time 15.00 setup
    Pop/FTP/Telnet one time 25.00 setup

These fees apply after you have used the free ones that come with your account.   There are no monthy charges for the above addons.

  • Who is internic?
  • The InterNIC is an independent organization responsible for holding the registration and routing of Internet domain names. Without these people, it would be virtually impossible to maintain sanity on the Internet. Registration fee is $70 for the first two years and $35/year thereafter for your virtual domain name. The InterNIC will send you an invoice via email between 3 to 4 weeks after the domain is registered.
  • What if I go over my traffic allowance.
  • A email warning will be sent before this actually occurs. You may purchase extra traffic at 20.00 per gig.
  • Can I add more space to my site?
  • Yes, you can purchase extra space at 3.00 per month

    for each additonal 10 megs.
  • Can I install my own cgi scripts?
  • Yes, each domain has its own cgi-bin. We only monitor

for poorly written scripts that may become resource hogs.
  • Will server side includes work on your server (SSI)?
  • Yes, SSI's will parse on any page ending in .sht or .shtml, rather than the usual .htm or .html.
  • Can you handle foreign domain names?
  • Yes. We currently house domains from over 100 countries, for none internic domain names you will need to file the registration with your local NIC.
  • What type of java support do you offer?
  • Currently jdk 1.1.5 is installed on all servers.

At present we do not support java servlets.
  • What is Majordomo?
  • Majordomo is a full featured mailing list program that allows your customer the ability to subscribe and unsubscribe. This type of list is particular designed as a method of interaction, and can be run as a closed or open, moderated or not. As the list owner you can control all email allowed to be distributed to the list.
  • Can I access my domain without the "www" in front?
  • Yes, you will be able to access the domain address with or without the "www" in front of the domain name. Example: [http://www.your-name.com] or [http://your-name.com] is acceptable, whichever you prefer.
  • Do you offer dialup internet access?
  • No, you will need local Internet access in order to maintain your web site and retrieve email addressed to your site.
  • Do you maintain backups of my data?
  • Yes, we do backups of your home and WWW directories 3 times per week. There is a small charge to pull a backup when requested.
  • Do you handle the domain registration?
  • Yes. We will contact the InterNIC once your account is activated to request either a new domain name registration or a domain name modification (trasferring an existing domain to our servers). Please DO NOT submit a registration or modification template to the InterNIC as this may delay the process.
  • Can I transfer a existing domain to your servers?
  • Yes, just be sure to specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain. You should keep the service with your current provider while waiting for InterNIC to complete the transfer process. We will provide you with a temporary IP address so you can mirror the site on our server. All email and web pages will still be accessed from your current site. When InterNIC announces the completion of the transfer there is a 72 hour propagation period where visitors could go to either site. At the end of the 72 hours you should contact your previous host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record. If you use this same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to access your domain site until they update their DNS. When we file a modification, one of the current listed contacts must ok the move. Internic will send a email that you must ok to have the redirection of your domain completed. If the contact email on your domain has changed from the time you originally registered it, you will need to fax a authorization to complete the process using a tracking number we will provide upon request.
  • What type of hardware and software will I be hosted on?
  • We try to always use the latest hardware innovations, currently all domains are being hosted on dual pent II 400/450 mghz with 260 megs of ram. The operating system is a customized version of redhat with the renound Apache web server.
  • How long is it before my domain is active?
  • Once the InterNIC announces that your domain name has been registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually takes about 72-hours before it is active. All Internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect the new site's location.
