- Conduct telephone survey of all 35 GTA
municipalities to determine current status of GTA
Internet connectivity, specifically for eMail.
Itentify domain names, user ID format, mail package,
Internet service provider, etc. for all connected sites.
Determine connectivity plans for those municipalities who
are not yet connected.
- Research the feasibility, implications, costs,
benifits and alternatives of providing a common Internet
eMail directory for the GTA (or far all Ontario
Municipalities). Possible providers for such
service include AMO/Municom, Bell Global Solutions, and
Management Board/Go-Net.
- Consider and recommend any actions, if any,
which might be required to enhance Internet connectivity
among those GTA sites that have (or will have) their own
connections is place, as well as for any GTA municipality
with no immediate internal plans.
- Conduct telephone survey of all 35 GTA
municipalities to determine current status of Web Site
development, including URLs and a general
summary of content, format, etc.
- Research the feasibility, implications, costs,
benifits, and alternatives for a common GTA Web Site,
with links to all specific municipal sites within the
GTA. I believe (Jim
Andrew) there are may already be some
activity or commitment on this front from Economic
Development people. AMO/Municom also provides a directory
and links to all Ontario municipal Web Sites.
- Consider the possibility and practical
limitations associated with possible recommendations re,
any common format or conttent for GTA Web Sites.
I am not optimistic that a broad common format is either
necessay or desireable among independent and, ultimately,
competing organizations. However, there may be some
appropriate recommendations of things which can be added
to GTA Web Sites to enhance the overall GTA Web presence.
