Who we are
Applied Cognitive & Learning Sciences is a group of people and resources devoted to helping people perform better on tests and in school. We do this by looking at individual differences, seeing treatment as a multi-domain process, and using the highest available educational technology.

Individual Differences

ACLS believes people learn, understand, and exercise their understandings differently. This is in direct contrast to current educational protocol in the U.S., which insists everybody learn according to one method. We believe all individuals have a distinct learning style: a way of learning and understanding that suits them best, not necessarily compatible with the way their books or professors present information. Our mission is to help people discover, manage and use their learning style so they can stay in school or achieve their best on standardized tests. This is particularly helpful for those people who may have been diagnosed with a learning disability.

Multi-Domains

ACLS manages an individual's improvement usuing the concept of multi-domains. We believe that people don't learn in a vacuum, and different areas of their lives - what we refer to as domains - intermingle and affect one another. Someone's score on a test isn't simply the result of what he or she knows: it's also influenced by the individual's ability to understand the question and express his or her knowledge, the individual's level of physical endurance, emotional issues, and a number of other factors most people often dismiss as trivial or irrelevant. An example of multi-domain assessment in action can be found in our extended self assessment test.

Interactive Educational Technology

ACLS views the computer as one of the most powerful interactive learning tools. There are a number of existing computer-based educational and psychological tools ACLS incorporates when helping an individual, and also several we are in the process of developing.
