How do I report a problem ?
Before you report a problem please check our
website`s Q&A section thoroughly for a solution to your problem. This could save you
and us a lot of time and trouble !
Also make sure to use the latest BIOS update for your mainboard and use default BIOS settings.
If you cannot find any Q&A descriptions that are
similar to the problem you are facing, then you can write an e-mail to our
technical support mailbox
or contact your local
Chaintech office or local dealer near you.
Mention the exact product model name and PCB version
(mostly written between the PCI slots) and BIOS datecode, which is indicated on the top
left of the screen after startup.
Furthermore, try to make the problem description as
clear as possible, so our technicians can emulate your problem configuration in our
testlab.
Our Technical Support Department will do their best
to answer your e-mails within 24 hours.

How to identify
Chaintech motherboards ?
On the outer edge of all Chaintech mainboards, on the
outer ISA slot, you will find a white sticker with model name and serial no.
Chaintech mainboards model names all start with a
number (4 for 486 based mainboards, 5 for Pentium based mainboards, 6 for Pentium Pro/II
based mainboards) followed by three letters and another number.
The last number is not always there and indicates a
model version. This model version is either `0`, in case it is often not indicated, or a
`1`.
Furthermore a PCB version is written on the board,
usually between the PCI slots. This PCB version begins with Mxxx.
Examples of Chaintech model names are: 5IGM M101,
5IFM1 M202.
When reporting a problem, it is necessary to know
which mainboard you are using. For example, 5IFM (= 5IFM0 !) and 5IFM1 have a different
BIOS version which cannot be interchanged.

How do I
know which mainboard I have, 5IFM0 or 5IFM1(5IGM0/1, 5HTM0/1, etc.) ?
Check the model name/serial no. sticker on the edge
of your mainboard, it should read something like 5IFM1 - Z138. The `5IFM1` part is
important when reporting a problem or when trying to find a BIOS update for your
mainboard. The other part is a production code which is not of interest for you.
If your mainboard is already built into a system then
check on the mainboard somewhere in the middle, usually around the third and fourth PCI
slot, for a PCB version mark xABC Mzzz, for example 5IFM1 M202.
In general, if Mzzz is M1zz, then your mainboard is
an `0` version. If Mzzz is M2zz, then your mainboard is an `1` version. For example 5IFM
M201 indicates this mainboard is an 5IFM1, 5IFM M101 indicates this mainboard is an 5IFM0.
The following table shows the most popular models and
their PCB numbers.
Notice that the 5IGM is different in that the `1`
version is indicatd immediately on the PCB.
