Palestinian students face daily terror and
bombing

Briefing on a report by the Ministry of Education of the Palestinian
National Authority
The report came out on January 2001.
The report includes the following information:
- The curfew which continued for more than 84 days in the old town of Hebron resulted in
the closure of 25 schools preventing more than 13 thousand students as well as 460
teachers from attendance
- In Nablus the schools surrounding Yousef`s tomb were closed for military reasons by
Israeli forces preventing students from attendance for more than 30 continuous days.
- The siege of Palestinian territories also prevented teachers from travelling to their
place of work continuously for more than 80 days, since the start of the Israeli siege of
Palestinian towns and villages.
- While trying to get to their jobs, many teachers were shot and wounded by Israeli
soldiers.
- Many schools were occupied by Israeli forces especially in the old town of Hebron in
which 4 schools were occupied preventing more than 2400 students from attendance.
- Many schools were shot at by Israeli army creating an atmosphere of sheer terror, also
causing physical damage to the buildings and psychological harm to the students.
- The home of Dr. Naim Abullhumos, Deputy Minster of Education, was hit by Israeli fire.
- 57 students were shot dead since the start of the Intifada on September 28th -2000 as
well as 1888 students were injured inside their schools by Israeli live bullets.
- Israel arrested more than 33 teachers and accused them of inciting violence.
