Press Release: The Belligerent Israeli Occupation Forces shell a “Palestinian National Security Forces / the 17” base and kill one Palestinian officer.

1. Yesterday, 21/3/2001, at 9:45 p.m., the belligerent Israeli Occupation Forces shelled the Presidential Training Center located in Ash-Shaikh Ejleen/ Gaza to the west of Nitsareem settlement. The Israeli forces shelled the center, which belongs to the Palestinian National Security Forces “the 17 Forces”, with heavy artillery. As a result, Lieutenant Kamil Salih al-Jamal, a 29- year old resident of Beach refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, was killed. Besides, the following Palestinian soldiers were wounded:

34- year old Ahmad Sa’do al-Arayish, who was injured in both legs.
20- year old Rezq Sa’eed Abu Settah, who was injured in the chest and both legs.
22- year old Nafiz Mahmoud Hillis, who was injured in various parts of the body.

2. The belligerent Israeli Occupation Forces have continued to bulldoze large areas of agricultural lands located near ad-Doh valley north to Bait Hanoun in the Gaza Strip. In this context, the following pieces of land have been bulldozed since 18/3/2001:

In the light of the current situation, where the belligerent Israeli Occupation Forces have been targeting both the Palestinian civilians and their property, Al-Mezan center for human rights requests the following:

The International Community to immediately provide protection for the Palestinian civilians in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. In this context, the UN Security Council is requested to immediately send a team of International Human Rights Observers to the Occupied Palestinian Territories in to monitor the Israeli crimes against the Palestinian civilians.
The European Union, which will hold a meeting to revise its Association Agreement with Israel, should terminate this agreement.
The High Contracting Parties of the 4th Geneva Convention must immediately hold a conference to discuss ways that guarantee

To apply the Convention in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

To fulfill the legal obligations implied by the Convention by the HCP’s.
