NCTSI C4I procedural interoperability testing is accomplished
through standards compliance and multiple interface or distributed
system testing to ensure accurate presentation of tactical data is
shared by all systems on a network or data link. This procedural
interface testing includes accuracy of data transmission, data
forwarding, and display of tactical data. Systems communicating over
multiple interfaces have all interfaces examined during
interoperability certification , ensuring all participating systems
in the network or data link maintain an equivalent tactical picture.
Trouble reports are then written by the test director describing any
problems encountered. Subsequently , a certification letter is
issued if the system has no significant interoperability problems.
NCTSI interoperability testing is conducted to ensure a common
tactical picture between C4I systems and across Joint and Allied
interfaces. This testing is accomplished through standards
compliance and multiple interface or distributed system testing to
ensure accurate presentation of tactical data is shared by all
systems on a network. This procedural testing includes accuracy of
transmission and correct interpretation and display of tactical
message standards.
NCTSI also performs interoperability testing of foreign country
programs. These includes NATO and PACOM country programs.
Interoperability testing has proven to be a tremendous asset by
ensuring all nations are interoperable on the respective TADIL.
NCTSI uses the Multi-Link System Test/Training Tool (MLST3) as
its primary interoperability certification and developmental testing
system. The testing system is capable of interfacing
simultaneously on Link 11, Link 16 and Link 4A. Data
links can be tested independently or in a multilink environment ,
enabling testing of Link 11 and Link 16 data
forwarding. Additionally, when new TADIL requirements are
implemented, they can be verified before including them into their
respective Operational Specification.
Most tests are completed within two weeks and test
reports are forwarded within six weeks after the completion of
testing.
