Volume One – PJ’s in Vietnam, covering 1964
through Tet in 1968 is finally complete. It has been two years three months
since I stated my intention to document the history of Air Rescue in Vietnam.
Initially I had conceptualized a single 400-page book that would cover the
entire war. After collecting thousands of pages of primary source material and
outlining the draft copy, it became apparent that it would take more than 800
pages to do this historical work justice. One of the books goals is to cover all
significant missions flown during the war. Rather than modify that goal and
delete known material, I chose to publish in two volumes.
Now volume one is complete. It is over 400 pages of
action packed stories about the missions many of you and your friends flew in
Vietnam. It is not a story only about PJ’s. Each mission in the book also names
the pilots and other enlisted crew members. Volume one has rescues flown by
HU-16’s, HH-43’s, CH-3’s, HH-3’s and introduces the HH-53 into the war. It is
also a story of the supporting aircraft that made air rescues happen in the war.
Many of the missions have the names of the Sandy pilots. It is also about the
survivors. Almost all of the missions in the book have the survivors names. I
also cover the accomplishments of our maintenance support, tactics development
and much, much more.
Appendixes in the back of the book cover all known
missions (over 1700) the names of the rescue crew, date, location, type SAR
aircraft, type downed aircraft and name of the survivor/s. This book is
extremely detailed and factual. It is the only comprehensive work of its type.
And now it is done !!!
Publication of this work is being financed by
advanced sales of the book. I need to sell 600 of them prior to signing a
contract with the printer. That means it is now time for you to get your order in. Many of you have
asked what you could do to help make this book possible. Well now is your
chance. Order a copy or two of this unparalleled history, in many cases YOUR
HISTORY.
I have sold slightly over 100 copies to date. I
will be revising my website this weekend to put a countdown counter on the home
page. It will list how many have been sold and how many more need to be sold
before it goes to the printer. I enjoyed writing this book much more than I will
enjoy marketing it. But marketing is necessary to pay for its publication. It
would help out a great deal if you could contact a few friends and get them to
order copies. So, fill out the attached order form, get out your checkbook and
mail in your order ASAP. More details about the book can be found on my
website

Today marks the first day of a
90-day marketing campaign. I’ve done my
part, now I need you to do yours. I am confident that the 600 copies will be
ordered in time to get delivery to you no later than Memorial Day (28 May) 2001.
This seems an appropriate time to release this book about many who sacrificed
“So That Other’s May Live.”
