Transitions is a court-mandated
educational program that is designed for parents who have filed for divorce in St. Clair
County and have children
ages 0 - 18. As of January 1997,
Judge William E. Hereford and Judge Robert E. Austin, who preside over all divorce cases
in St. Clair County, have signed an order requiring all divorcing parents to complete an
educational program concerning the effects of divorce on children. The course is designed
to allow parents to view divorce through the eyes of their children and enable them to
help their children through this difficult time. Instructors teaching the course are
professionals who have experience working with families and children. Parents and
children ages 8-16 are required to attend. Certificates are awarded upon completion of the
course. The course may be completed by attending two evening sessions or one Saturday
session and is offered on the 1st and 2nd Monday of every month or the 3rd Saturday of
every month.
Transitions
is held in the St. Clair County Courthouse, Pell City, Alabama. Total cost for attending
is $50.00 per parent, however, parents must attend separate sessions. There is no charge
for children ages 8 through 16. Child care can be provided if prior arrangements are made,
but an additional charge is necessary.
Main source of funding: program service fees.
