CAPE REINGA,
- almost the northernmost point of New Zealand (the nearby Surville Cliffs actually are).
In Maori belief Cape Reinga, along with nearby Spirits Bay, is the departure place for the spirits of the recently deceased.
On their way they are believed to climb down the twisted pohutukawa trees on the cliffs.
The Cape is where the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean meet,
a dramatic sight on the right day !
