SFPS employs 872 licensed personnel.
Including the support personnel, over 1,600
employees
serve the needs of our 13,000 students.
Class size is determined by New Mexico Statutes and State Standards.
It is the intention of the Legislature that
New Mexico have
the lowest possible pupil/teacher ratios.
New teachers and administrators in New Mexico schools must
pass the National Teacher Examination to
be certified.

Staff Development
The SFPS district is commited to extensive staff development,
with the understanding that teaching and
learning
are inseparable, lifetime endeavors.
Opportunities for staff development answer expressed needs of teachers,administrators,
parents, the business community, and the School Board.
Finances
The Santa Fe Public School district has an operating budget of approximately
$90 million. Over 96% of this money comes directly from the State. The
percentage is comparable with all school districts in the State of New
Mexico.
The funding level for education is set each year by the State Legislature
and is appropriated to each district through an equalized formula.
The budget is prepared at the district level and is approved by the local
Board of Education after conducting public budget workshops. Within guidelines
set by the State, the local School Board has the authority to set spending
levels in all areas (including salaries).
The final budget is reviewed and approved by the Start Department of Education.
Facilities
The Santa Fe Public School District includes 27 school buildings, two of
which are high schools (grades 9-12); two middle schools (grades 6-8);
one middle and junior high school (grades 7-8); 18 elementary schools (grades
pre K-6) and 3 elementary schools (grades K-5). Other facilities include
the Administration Building, the Technology Learning Center, the B.F. Young
Professional Development Center (a.k.a The Sierra Vista Complex), Academy
High School, the Transportation Department, and the General Services Building.
