The philosophical and structural changes made in 1994-95
facilitate the needs of the adolescent student in this changing
world. An interdisciplinary team approach is used to provide a
very strong basic skills program. Middle schools use teams of
teachers working together with a common block of class time and
planning time. This approach allows the teachers two important
options: first, the flexibility of time through creative
grouping and scheduling, and second, the integration of various
subjects using teaching teams. The middle schools include grades six, seven, and eight.
They are structured physically and academically to promote thematic
interdisciplinary, an innovative teaching.
The
exploratory classes consist of foreign language, communication, art,
computers, applied technology, home economics, physical education,
instrumental and vocal music. The schedules are designed to
give students both diversity and increased instruction time.
Teachers too enjoy the benefits of additional team plan
times.
