SERVICES FOR THE PUBLIC

Online services

• The Library's online catalog, which provides bibliographic access to materials in the library's collection is available to everyone via the World Wide Web.
• Web access to our Online Digital Special Collections is now available to the general public.  Currently included are historic, but still important collections of Civil Aeronautics Manuals and Civil Air Regulations, the Superseded Advisory Circulars System, and the I.C.C. Historical Railroad Investigation Reports.  These collections will continue to grow, with other important documents being considered for future digitization projects.

Other free services

• The public has access to all library materials, including reference sources, to be used in the library only.  Borrowing privileges can be arranged for members of the general public via inter-library loan.

The Library's reference collections consist of heavily used materials in the areas of:

• General transportation
• Transportation statistics
• Engineering
• Government information (Federal, state, and local)
• Company information
• Legal information

The reference librarians at all locations can direct you to the most appropriate materials for your needs.

Special for-fee services

The DOT Library can work with individuals or organizations to provide specialized library services. These services include:

• Reference and research
• On-line literature searches
• Loan of library materials
• Periodical routing
• Acquisitions and cataloging

A written agreement between the library and customers is used for extensive or long-term services. Customers will receive a monthly bill for services performed. Infrequent, ad-hoc requests can be accommodated with a credit card.
