Super fast Differential interface
These 3.5" drives are perfect for differential disk arrays and our PCI Differential SCSI Controller!
7200 RPM drives with fast average seek times Ultrastar XP performance-optimized 3.5-inch disk drives provide the high data transfer rates needed for performance-critical applications such as video and multimedia.
S.M.A.R.T. compliance through Predictive Failure Analysis™ (PFA) technology
IBM's long-term experience in developing and implementing drive failure protection through Predictive Failure Analysis (PFA) helps ensure the highest level of data availability on Ultrastar XP drives.Complying with the Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) standards, PFA offers an enhanced implementation which monitors key device performance indicators, including head to disk fly height. PFA reports significant changes or impending failure when predetermined thresholds are surpassed, and helps provide advanced warning of an impending drive failure so the user has time to back up and protect their data.
Embedded sector servo technology
Ultrastar XP drives use an embedded sector servo implementation, eliminating the need for dedicated servo surfaces and the repetitive thermal calibration routines that can dramatically impact the high-speed data streams required for multimedia and video applications.
Leading technology
The IBM Ultrastar XP 4 GB peak-performance drives are designed to meet the needs of performance-critical, data-intensive applications. By combining IBM's leading drive technologies such as Magneto-Resistive (MR) heads and PRDF ( PRML with digital filter) channels, Ultrastar XP offers enhanced capacity, performance and reliability.
IBM-developed MR heads allow data to be stored at a very high areal density (544 Mbits per square inch), providing higher capacity and enhanced reliability. The unique PRDF channel offers reliable data transfer at higher data rates. In addition, The Ultrastar XP drives can be easily mixed and matched with the Ultrastar series of drives to meet manufacturers' capacity and performance demands without extensive requalification procedures.
Performance
The superior performance of the Ultrastar XP drives results from a number of factors. The 7200 RPM spin rate combined with an industry-leading areal density, a low average seek time and the patented PRML channel, gives these drives data rates of 9.59-12.58 MB/sec -- among the fastest data transfer rates in the industry.
