Barkley Sound, in which Bamfield is
situated, offers wonderful a wonderful kayaking experience for people of all ages and
skill levels.
Calm Waters for the Novice Kayaker
The inlets around Bamfield, with their calm waters, are ideal for those
who have never kayaked before. Full and half day tours are available. Watch for eagles,
river otters, seals, and bears along the way.
Coastal Tours for the Intermediate Kayaker...
Trips up or down the edge of Barkley Sound offer more challenging paddling, and the
opportunity to take a break on one of the beautiful sand beaches that line the coast.
Open Sea for Experienced Kayakers
A trip to the Deer Group from Bamfield involves crossing open ocean,
and should only be considered by very experienced paddlers, or guided tours. The scenery
is spectacular, and several of the island have beaches ideal for camping.
Multi-Day Trips ...
Mutli-day trips to the Deer Group are an exciting way for experienced
paddlers to see Barkley Sound. The coast offers up to five days of paddling. You can cross
Trevor Channel (open ocean) in about one hour, or you can arrange to have your kayaks
dropped off by a local service or the Lady Rose (see Transportation for details). For
