HELPFUL HINTS FOR $1,000 GRANTS
BASIC QUALITIES OF GOOD PROPOSALS
- Make sure the proposal is neat, clean and easy to read.
- Correct spelling and grammar
- Short paragraphs
- Plain English NOT education jargon
- Short sentences
- Simple packaging
- Present a positive attitude. Don’t beg.
Explain why your project offers The Ed. Fund an opportunity to fund an important, useful activity that will positively impact students.
- Present enough evidence to support your position, but do not overdo it.
SPECIFIC HINTS ABOUT THE APPLICATION
- PROJECT SUMMARY (Clearly and concisely summarize the request.)
- Identify the grant applicants.
- Include no more than 2 sentences about the applicants’ qualifications or background.
- Present 1 sentence indicating the issue, problem, or need to be met with this project.
- State the objective(s) of this project.
- Identify the type(s) of activities to be conducted to accomplish the objective(s).,
- Outline the total cost of the project, any funds already committed, and the amount
requested.
- in this proposal.
- PROBLEM STATEMENT or NEEDS ASSESSMENT
- Relate the problem to grade level and/or curriculum goals.
- Indicate the problem is of reasonable dimension to be improved or lessened by this
project.
- Support the problem with statistical evidence (if possible/if appropriate).
- Present the problem in terms of students’ needs.
- Do not assume.
- Do not use jargon.
- OBJECTIVES
- Describe the outcomes not the methods of the project in relation to the problem
stated.
- Define the student population to be served and indicate how many students will
benefit from the project.
- Indicate the time frames of the project.
- Present the objectives in numerical terms (if applicable).
- METHODS
- Make sure the methods flow logically and naturally from the problem statement and
objectives.
- Describe project activities clearly.
- State reasons for the activities selected.
- Describe the sequence of activities.
- Describe the roles teachers, assistants, parents will play in the activities.
- Present a reasonable scope of activities that can be accomplished in the time allotted
and with the resources indicated.
- EVALUATION
- Consider the product and process in designing the evaluation.
- Define evaluation criteria.
- Describe data gathering methods.
- Explain any test instruments or questionnaires to be used.
- Describe process of data analysis.
- FUTURE or OTHER NECESSARY FUNDING
- Present a plan to provide for future funding if project is to be continued.
- Indicate other funding sources if the project will require more than the $1,000
maximum of The Ed. Fund grant.
- BUDGET
- Indicate all project expenses clearly and specifically.
- Include all tax and handling charges in the total amount.
IMPORTANT APPLICATION REMINDERS
(Failure to comply with the following requirements will automatically disqualify your application.)
Applications must be postmarked no later than the deadline. See application form for deadline.
- An original and 4 collated, stapled copies of the application must be submitted.
- All applications must be signed by the applicants and the principal.
- All applications must be sent with the correct postage and must not require a signature for delivery.
