TIFLEX LIMITED: Your partner in research, development and production of rail pads, baseplate pads, undersleeper pads and ballast mats for the reduction of vibration in rail track. Tiflex Limited has specialised since 1946 in the manufacture of resilient track support materials and other components which are designed to reduce ground borne vibration from rail track. We have test apparatus specially designed and dedicated to the examination of polymers for use in the rail track. We can examine in detail the response of rail pads to wheel flat impacts. Baseplate pads and Undersleeper pads are tested at large amplitude and high frequencies (typical of the track situation) so that the vibration insertion loss can be determined accurately. Tiflex Limited have some of the most advanced elastomer testing equipment available anywhere in the world, and our research is dedicated to finding the most cost-effective solutions for our railway partners and providing them with the best possible advice, designs and materials. The quality of our products and dedication to customer service are fundamental requirements throughout the Tiflex organisation. Tiflex anti-vibration products are manufactured from the highest quality raw materials with strict quality control at every stage. The Tiflex quality management system is assessed regularly and is approved to BS EN ISO 9002. Tiflex is also an authorised and approved supplier to many key railway organisations both in the U.K. and overseas. Rail Pads The selection of rail pads is an important decision as the rail pad is the only resilient element in the track which can protect sleepers from damaging impact forces caused by wheel and rail imperfections. The consistent performance of Tiflex rail pads provides resilience even under the most unfavourable conditions. TRACKELAST FC584 (complies with Railtrack specification RT/CE/S/052 and UIC 864/5) This highly resilient grade is available in thicknesses of up to 10.5mm. It is often used on high speed track where the reduction of impact forces is most important. Trackelast FC584 is also frequently specified for use on tramwav and mainline applications. TRACKELAST FC9 (complies with UIC specification 864/5) Trackelast FC9 is a little stiffer than FC584 and is available in thicknesses up to 1Omm. It is primarily specified for use on lower speed main line tracks. TRACKELAST FC846 (complies with Railtrack specification RT/CE/S/052 and UIC 864/5) An extremely hard wearing grade, Trackelast FC846 has a relatively high stiffness and is resistant to oil. It is used under very arduous conditions, often on switches and crossings, and can be used with rigid fasteners. TRACKELAST FC887 (complies with Railtrack specification RT/CE/S/052) Trackelast FC887 can be adapted to suit any environment. It combines the strength and toughness of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) with the resilience of cork particles in a unique process. The resulting pads are very tough and durable and resistant to oils. These pads are used on both low and high speed tracks in thicknesses of up to 1Omm. TRACKELAST FC128 (complies with Railtrack specification RT/CE/S/052) A range of pads made from ethylene vinyl acetate in either eared or lipped configuration is available. FC128 is a non-resilient pad installed in areas requiring a very tough and durable material. Tiflex Limited have manufactured baseplate pads for more than 40 years and have a wide range of materials available to suit almost every application from switches and crossings to vehicle washing plants. TRACKELAST FC5 FOR TIMBER SLEEPERS Trackelast FC5 is available in thicknesses up to 1Omm depending upon the degree of resilience required. Trackelast FC5 is designed to remain unaffected by timber preservatives. TRACKELAST FC6 FOR CONCRETE SLEEPERS Trackelast FC6 is designed to provide a resilient interface between baseplate and concrete sleeper. Similar to FC5 in stiffness, Trackelast FC6 is also available in thicknesses of up to 1Omm. Trackelast FC10 is recommended for use where there is moderate contamination with lubricants or fuel oils. Thickness range 5mm to 20mm. TRACKELAST FC16 FOR ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE Trackelast FC16 is designed for supporting ceramic electrical insulators. Its high electrical resistance makes it ideal for use in third rail applications. TRACKELAST FC26 FOR HEAVILY CONTAMINATED AREAS Trackelast FC26 is specially formulated to resist attack from aggressive chemicals and fuel oils. This makes it ideal for use in maintenance bays and vehicle washing plants. TRACKELAST FC897 BASEPLATE HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT SHIMS Trackelast FC897 is a relatively incompressible shimming material. Available in a wide range of thicknesses, it is used for setting baseplated track to line and level.
Tiflex undersleeper pads are more effective than baseplated track at reducing vibration because there are no fixed anchoring points In addition, the rigidity of the sleeper assembly allows greater track deflections without compromising track stability. Tiflex undersleeper pads typically provide up to 12dB reduction in vibration transmission at the 63Hz band. Many thousands of these pads are now in use either on new projects or have been retro-fitted in locations throughout the world. Tiflex are pleased to provide technical assistance and advice for fitting Trackelast undersleeper pads into any railway environment.
Ballast Mats When Tiflex ballast mats are installed under the ballast, they isolate the track structure from the supporting foundation or substrate and can attenuate the transmission of vibration by 2OdB or more in most cases. Trackelast ballast mats are designed to give the optimum static and dynamic properties for use with main line, urban, light rail and metro axle loads. They are proven to give reliable performance over a very long service life under any climatic conditions. Floating SlabTrack Bearings Being one of the world's foremost suppliers of floating slab track bearings, Tiflex have a wealth of experience with this technology. There are two principal designs for Tiflex floating slab track bearings. Discrete bearings can be installed under pre-cast concrete slabs in the traditional manner. Alternatively, a soft continuous layer of resilient material, similar to a ballast mat, can be installed. Concrete can then be cast on top of this layer to create the slab. Tiflex lead the way with a comprehensive service which includes the design, production and testing of floating slab track bearings. Our experienced technical staff are pleased to offer advice on any aspect of their use.
