Geostatistics? What is it
If you know what geostastics is already click here RC-Squared Home to be directed to our home page. This page explains what Geostastistics is to people who may not have heard the term. Geostastistics is really spatial stastistics applied to the petroleum reservoir modelling, mining engineering or hydrogeological modelling disciplines. If you remember your statistics class, you probably calculated covariances between an independent variable X and a dependent variable Y. The fundamental difference in spatial statistics is that there is one variable X but the dependent variable is X + distance. X will be different at a distance, called the lag distance, and the modelling of this difference is called variography. You calculate covariances not on X,Y but on X,X+H.
