The mission of Kentucky Valley Educational Cooperative is to improve educational opportunities in a way that fosters visionary leadership, positive change, effective communication, cooperation, creativity, shared responsibility and efficient use of resources so that member districts continuously improve their preparation of every student to live and work in a global society.
The Kentucky Valley Educational Cooperative, housed in Hazard, Kentucky, serves as a consortium of ten local school districts. Interlocal agreements designate the local superintendents of schools as representatives on the Cooperative board of directors. In addition to the services described below, the Cooperative has served as a regional vehicle for general educational improvement through planning, problem solving, staff development, leadership training, and disseminating information.

ADULT EDUCATION

Provides adult education services in all KVEC counties in Learning Centers and through off-site classes. KVEC collaborates with Vocational Schools, DSI, Family Resource Centers, Correctional Institutions and Community Colleges to perform this work. KVEC's adult education program is funded by the Department for Adult Education and Literacy and includes the following: adult basic education, GED preparation, JOBS instruction and adult literacy instruction in Perry, Owsley, Knott and Leslie Counties. SPECIAL EDUCATION
Director: Kathy Eversole
Provides for coordination in special education services for all KVEC districts including implementation of IDEA federal project; itinerant services in physical therapy, occupational therapy, vision impairment, hearing impairment, psychological assessments, day treatment; and transportation of children to the Kentucky School for the Blind and the School for the Deaf.
EFFECTIVE SCHOOLS
Offers training, support, and updates on the program. Member districts receive free scoring and analysis of surveys. Assists in preparing plans.
ASSESSMENT
Offers practice tests, questions, and analysis to member districts; provides open response questions and performance events; make assessment presentations for parent groups and local Boards of Education.
BIDDING
Offers bulk bidding and buying for food items, paper, janitorial supplies, instructional supplies, athletic supplies, and insurance.
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Provides opportunity for member superintendents to meet to discuss concerns, problem solve, strategize, and improve education in the region, coordinates Aspiring Principal Program.
