COLONEL GEORGE PEACH TAYLOR, JR.
Colonel (Dr.) George Peach Taylor, Jr., is command surgeon, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Ramstein Air Base, Germany. As command surgeon, he advises and represents the USAFE commander on all aspects of the medical service mission including clinical and aerospace medicine, medical readiness, community health, and maintenance and management of Air Force hospitals, clinics and other medical units. He allocates manpower, materiel and financial resources to the medical activities of the command.
Colonel Taylor was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force Reserves through the Health Professions Scholarship Program in June 1975. Following medical school and internship, the colonel entered active duty as a captain in July 1979. The colonel is a chief physician, board certified in aerospace medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine. As an active chief flight surgeon, he has more than 1,500 hours flying time in a wide variety of aircraft. He has substantial experience in fighter and flight test operations and served as military consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General for aerospace medicine in 1995.
Before assuming his current position, Colonel Taylor was director of medical programs and resources in the Office of the Air Force Surgeon General, Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C. There, he was responsible for the planning, programming and budget allocation of the annual $4.7 billion Air Force Medical Service program. He is a 1994 graduate of the National War College, Fort Lesley J. McNair, Washington, D.C., and commanded the Air Force hospital at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, from July 1993 to April 1995.
Colonel Taylor was born in Birmingham, Ala. His wife, Beth, is from Midland, Mich. They have two children: Maggie and Katie.
